Legacy of Kain 3 defiance (Xbox)

Its time for Zippy to play with a new game,and annoy all with his jaded thoughts on it.

Well its pretty simplistic,I miss the first person mode to snipe/toggle things with the 3rd person mode dosent work quite right IE the cross hair for the toggle shoot dose not move the screen,the camera is overly static,feels like it was watered down for the Xbox control scheme but that cant be right was was put on the PS2 as well.

Limited combos
Static cam
I miss impaling weak targets (would love to have some form of timed impaling so you can toss a body )
most of the range attackers are automatic or something like it
cant throw guards at each other after draining them or use them as shields
cant use Telekinetic push/pull effectively see god of war hows toss enemies work



Explore mode
static cam
iffy 3rd person aim mode (cross hair pops up when you hold down black button screen only moves with right analog stick....you do the math)
meekly designed areas(more meek beat em up than action adventure).
there are areas for some strange reason you cant use the look feature or move the screen its all on static mode...can you say cheap deving,its like invisible walls..its annoying.....

The only good thing I can say is they don't take a ton of damage,a fire arrow knocks they around more than it hurts,the story and most of the VAing is ok its just core elements keeping the game down.
all in all Soul Reaver 1/2 had more something something in its fighting this thing is more button mashing than anything else.

I would love to see a remake of 1 with full sized areas and more 3rd/frst person modes brought "back" into it for range attacks,better fighting and combo system,more impaling,maybe do it up in a zelda/GOW style use a no town zelda as the template for the area setup,use GOW for the fighting setup the theme would be Medevil Vampire horror goodness.

I think zelda is the only 3rd person action game I can think of to not have a annoying/bad cam...

Man I am running into alot of invisi walls and poor collision spots...

its a shame theres no decent block button and better group fighting this is kinda a button masher.

BTW is god of war the only fighter to use the ocationall slow mo?

If you can put up with a few control issues (its an early Xbox game, give it a break!) Legacy of Kain: Defiance is a really fun game. Some of the best voice overs ever to grace a console...such a shame that the elder god (Tony Jay) is no longer with us.

I got up to the final boss, but couldn't beat him. I was a cool game, though. Hope it gets a sequel.

Well technically it was supposed to be the last in the franchise (Blood Omen, Blood Omen 2, Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2 and then Defiance) but seeing as the Elder Gods voice over is no more and the loose ends have been cleaned up I doubt there will be a new game

Then I'll have to get those previous games when they are released on the PS Store.

Well, considering that Defiance tied up all of the loose ends of the series, I'd say an actual sequel is very unlikely.

If you can put up with a few control issues (its an early Xbox game, give it a break!) Legacy of Kain: Defiance is a really fun game. Some of the best voice overs ever to grace a console...such a shame that the elder god (Tony Jay) is no longer with us.

A sad loss he was a great VA was a loss to animation as well as gamedom,but the wheels of fate stop for no man,when the suits are ready a replacement will be found,and knowing the suits I doubt they would try and make another Kain game.

back to the game tho

2 or 3 great voices and the rest hurt brain....but ya once you get use to it tis a 7 from when I started it had 5-6 written all over it but once you get use to the nuances of the controls its more solid than a normal button masher the story is good I am noticing some odd glitches here and there it crashed once so far I blame edios for not letting them polish it :P


SO far the thing I hate the most is the damn camera I'd kill for a simple tracking cam that I can place with the right analog stick.....

I don't think it made enough money to warrant a remake, though a next gen version of Raziel and Kain would be rather groovy.

LOK 3 or BO2?

to me BO made SR SR made BO 2 and LO3 theres interest and it probably would sale if they didn't go cheap on the deving like they do half the time,but then this is edios we are talking about being cheap is what they do best.

Map and area quick load(if you been to a spot before you can warp there)
Re spawning enemies(1/4 exp on respawn)

better combo timing for razeil (for some strange reason rezail is having a harder time pulling off the same moves kain dose)

TK always hits the closest target in front of you ALWAYS

Toss implied body by toggling stick and pressing tk.

FPS shoot mode

add reaver status to TK blast IS fire is a fireball,AIR is a ice ball and such..any way you add it up fun stuff.

give elements and status to the revers (might need to make enimes a wee bit tougher to :P)

Dark + 25%(+50% on pure light) damage on humans,
full power slows target 40%
Full power release:Invisable

Light +25%(+50% on pure dark) damage on anything else,
full power blinds
Full power release:slows all around him

Balance Emblem gain 10% of damage to blood/HP
full power +20% on HP/Blood gain from damage
Full power release:damages all around him and takes 5% of that damage as health

flame emblem 10% chance to ignite target
full power:50% chance to ignite target
Full power release:100% chance to ignite target

Dimension Emblem 10% chance of poisoning target
full power:35% chance of poisoning target
Full power release:warps and damages/50% poisons all targets in area

Mmmmmm I am thinking a mix of SR2 (world and exloreing) with the fighting system of LOK:D only with twice as many fighting moves and the combos moved to buttons like GOW.

that would be great for the next game,however I believe they will use a slightly updated LOK:D/DMC setup...*sigh* I do hate the crappy static cam....

hell the whole series has some of the best writing I have seen in a series,really gets you thinking about the pompousness of religion and fanaticism,faith is great but blind faith is scary.

(blind faith is when you forgo logic,caring,and humbleness in order to please your faith)

For those who don't know, the wany SR 1 and 2 went was not the way it was at first set out, it was later changed to make a series.

There is a website, Lost worlds I think, that chornicled the the known "deleted" items from all known games in the Legacy of Kain series, blood omen and Soul reaver.

To see all of that deleted material reborn in a Next gen version would be sweet.

even if the game was made into a series most of the games offer good to great voice acting and a great story.

Since Kain is left when the Hyldain return to the land thats going to make a new game right their that is if they can find someone to back it,thats all games need anymore backing from the gray death,because the gray death are cheap I don't see game play evolving much but as long as the game dose not get smaller it will be a good game.
