Just here to register my objections to the "Moral Combat" trailer.
While I also have interests in gaming and politics, I felt that this avenue was the most likely way to get my message to Spencer out, and hopefully cause the trailer to be altered so that it better represents what he's really done in the documentary.
But if there's anything else that catches my attention, I'll be around. At least the posters here seem more inclined to be objective than "FFS JACK'S BACK!" and start personal attacks, which is always nice.

Welcome,
I really doubt the producer of "Moral Combat" will be reading these forums but you never know. While we do have a JT thread there are heavy limits to what can be said in them, and definitely no attacking, plus He Who Shall Not Be Named In Off-Topic isn't allowed to post or get onto the forums.
Anyways welcome and feel free to post more often if you want.

Welcome to GP. You're ours now. Here's what you can expect.
You'll stay for a while, see a few threads, laugh a bit, and see a few odd things. You'll bookmark the place for further amusement. This is where it all begins.
Before too long, you'll find yourself checking on GP in increased frequencies. First it'll happen occasionally during the week. Then once every day or so. Then more frequently. You'll find yourself checking on it twice a day. Three times. Once per hour. Before you know it, you'll be browsing it for hours at a time.
Slowly, your life will take a back-seat to GP. You'll find yourself forgetting to call people. You'll be late for work because you'll be reading legendary threads. Slowly, your life will decline into a mindless chaos.
As GP and /OT/ slowly consume your mind, your humor will be replaced with our humor. You'll become glued to GP. It'll be the only place you feel accepted. And then, you'll start accepting the weirder conventions. You'll find yourself fapping to all sorts of odd things you used to find disgusting. But now it'll all be commonplace for you, as a normal part of your life. Your personality.
And then, someday down the road, you'll realize what has happened to you. Your loved ones will have left you. You'll be alone. Unemployed. Struggling to survive. And worst of all, you'll be hooked. You won't be able to fight it, because we will be all you know, and all you remember. You'll slowly dissolve into madness, or mindless stupidity. Whichever comes first. And then, one day, you will snap, and all remains of your former self will be crushed under our weight.
Welcome, my friend. Welcome, my brother.
Welcome to your new home.
Welcome to GP.

hey, Shrike...
welcome!
I don't speak for Spencer Halpin or have any knowledge of the film beyond the story I wrote and the trailer we all saw.
Judging from the list of interviewees though, which include many from the gaming side of the house, I have to think the film itself is more balanced that the trailer may have made it appear...

Thanks, all.
Well, I'm not sure how to contact Mr. Halpin and give him my opinion directly, and I'm sure it'd be lost in a flood of hate-filled mail of those less considerate of the actual issue.
I don't think that the content of the documentary matters. I've been assuming it's balanced, or even refutes the 'moral decay' criers.
The problem is the trailer itself, and my reasoning is in the Moral Combat thread.
American politics are run by images and emotion. That's how middle america is mobilized to vote against its own interests. People VOTE based on attack ads.
The trailer's an attack ad that uses the viceral reactions people have for their children, moral decay, 9/11 and violence and gives them one big scapegoat. Ever hear of the "Daisy Spot"? How about "Swift Boat Veterans for Truth"? I find Moral Combat's trailer to be similar, and more costly to developers as it can be used by Jack Thompson and those like him to push copy-paste legislation.
That's why I'm here. The trailer's just a stupid way to go about getting attention, and I'm just hoping that if I can put this information up in enough places, I can somehow get it to Spencer Halpin and have him put out a new trailer that won't just draw fire from gamers.

Just out of curiosity - are you the same Shrike that is a mod over at CAG?
Just wondering!

No. I'm going with my favorite death-dealing monster from the "Hyperion" books by Dan Simmons.
