I stopped playing COH ,2 years ago when it became a pointless grind.
if they left the double thing on or turned back to when they game was fun it might be worth fooling with.

I have no idea what this "double thing" you're talking about is but I agree COH/COV is a bit of a grind...alas it is the only super themed MMO around and the only thing which appeases my supervillain needs.

No idea what ATHF is either, alas my comic knowledge is very limited. I think my mastermind named his minions after Arthurian Knights...but I might be wrong. I dinged lvl 20 last night as Thorn and got myself a spangly new second outfit. I'll have to post pictures at some point as the customisation is really what lifts CoV/CoH off the ground.

I am going to be glued to my computer come this weekend, between WoW and Double XP weekend on CoH I doubt I will log off the entire time lol. I seriously want to hit 20 on both Rhojin and Doc so I can get the second costume :D.
But if they left it on it would be too easy to level and after time it would become the average grind again, I am all for normal xp with a little double weekend thrown in every now and then :D but then again I don't notice the grind because I am too busy enjoying being a superhero/villan. Not to mention my SG is quite the lively group so the hours of fun never die.

Sorry after you hit lvl 6 or 7 on COH it becomes a grind eauql to FF11 and grinding is not fun when you are paying for it,if they managed to have jobs that you can manage better (IE drop out of it when its to hard or have jobs you can do byyourself) not to mention the AI cheats the enhancements are weak .heres a thought take the restrictions off enhancements so you can upgrade them lil by lil so you can feel like you are getting somewhere in the damn thing...

Its only a grind if you treat it like a grind. For me at the moment I treat it as me playing a supervillain causing as much havoc as I can. Undeniably I will probably get bored with it before the month is over but at the moment I'm having fun zooming around cities draining the life from people with my stalker powers!
Anywho, on to the point of CoV...the customised characters!

well COV is a bit more light and fun COH they have widdled down bit by bit into a PC correct (almost all classes are equal) grind.
Unless you only play it with groups.
whats the price on the COH/COV pack now adays..oh wait you have to buy it frist...cant just download it and pay the monthly nooo.... ah well last I checked it was 15 or 16..if they didn't draw blood to test the game out (28-40$) it would easier to test and then be disappointed with it :P
maybe I should find a COV trail...mmmm

Well pretty much every MMO has to be bought first, whether you get it downloaded to your drive or not. It is a business first and foremost afterall.
That said I got my original copy of City of Heroes (delux) from PC World for under £5 and the current Good vs Evil pack seems to be selling quite cheaply too.

only if you want the box and crap, most let you piggy back subscription onto trails because they are desperate for money because the subscription is where they make their money from.
I am on sat net so I might as well put off MMOs for longer, got to play some in 05 PSO and WOW are the ones that don't give me nightmares *L*.

Honestly I fail to see the grind in CoH but then again I am not that high in the level range so it might of not hit yet. But I won't care because I find if you are apart of an active group/guild the grind seems to vanish because you are too busy to reconise it. Now in FFXI yeah there was grind everywhere, sadly I have taken a vacation from the game due to that fact. But to each his own, grind seems to bother people differently I guess.

Phantasy Star Universe consists entirely of grinding. And to actually level up you need to fight monsters 5 levels above you. And it still takes hours just to get one level. I was playing for a week before I made 10. And that was when I was actually able to afford new weapons. Supposedly though, level 20 was when it picks up, but I couldn't stand sniping random monsters 50 times each for that long.

Well it looks like they might be addressing the "pointless grind" argument:
CoV/CoH Issue 9 (http://kotaku.com/gaming/city-of-heroes/city-of-heroes-update-9-details-231042.php)
Issue 9: "Breakthrough"
City of Heroes/City of Villians 9th expansion
Wednesday 24th January/...NCsoft Europe proudly brings you the the ninth free expansion to the City of Heroes® universe, introducing an entirely new level of depth and gameplay to the franchise.
SUMMARY:
Issue 9: Players acquire and invent new items and have the option to buy and sell them using the new hero and villain auction houses. Along with Issue 9's other great features, this brand new system results in a wealth of new gameplay options for players.
FEATURES:
Invention System (Heroes and Villains)
Using the highly anticipated Invention system, players acquire and collect valuable resources in the form of Salvage and Invention Recipes. These will be used together to invent powerful new enhancements, costume pieces, new powers, gadgets, and more. This creates a world of new possibilities, rewards and even greater character evolution!
Auction Houses (Heroes and Villains)
Where better to buy and sell all of these new items than in the new auction houses! Wentworth's Fine Consignments have sprung up throughout Paragon City™ while the villains prefer to do their dark dealings alongside "black-market" trucks placed throughout the Rogue Isles™.
Statesman's Task Force (Heroes only)
This high-level PvE content allows eight heroes to team up in order to face and defeat Paragon's greatest enemies! Completing this difficult challenge results in some of the game's rarest rewards!
New Hamidon Encounter (Heroes and Villains)
Not only do villains get their own end-game raid encounter with the "Hamidon," but the new experience is also brought to the Heroes side where players must use new tactics to bring down one of the city's greatest threats.

Well I don't think it will be released for a few months...thats more then enough time for me to become bored with the game! I have a very short attention span for MMO's, I normally never get above Lvl 25 though I managed to reach 40 in WoW and then realised there was nothing more for me to play for (I'm not a fan of raids and getting powerful gear so that you can look like everyone else your level).

dosent mean you cant put off playing for acoupel months :P
BUt I know the feelign after you have done 10 or 20 levels for acoupel of characters the game becomes pointless but there is no reasonable end and they don't make ti easy to see everything in the end,if they managed to make it flow better and such MMO's would be great but as there are they are poor grindy RPGs that can only distract you for so much ;_;
I try and finish a game in one setting I dont like replaying since games are kinda shallow and tis only fun once most of the time.

I actually rejoined it for the double XP weekend and to build a new charecter with some of the veteran outfit options.
The game became instantly more enjoyable the moment I got the Super Speed power. It's amazing how much more fun the game is when you aren't scared of every group of bad guys you see since you can just blaze past them to get to your mission. Also cool is the new scrapper design i am working on. He's nearly unbeatable now that I've hit level 17. I can take on even large groups of enemies and survive.
I'm on champion server i think. Currently trying to get my super jumping power to make travel in certain areas easier. Anyone on Champion server give me your name, we can form a super group next time I'm on and name it after GP, if it's ok with dennis that is.:D

I got to level 25 over the weekend (I was 21 at the start of it!). It was fun to just rush through and get new skills and powers but I think I need a ton more infamy just to be able to get my powers up to full capacity.
Did have one funny group though: We were raiding a Freak Base as a team of five when the leader had to flee (it was also their mission). They were level 26 so we found ourselves facing a whole base filled with lieutenants and bosses level 27+ (most were purple). We spent ages, several wipes and true planning to eradicate most of the area until we found the main bad guy. Having died many times I (as the new leader) gave everyone the choice to say "pie" if they wanted to abandon the mission. Everyone said no and so we continued our fight, eventually taking the boss down (and aquiring so much debt it would make you cry)...oddly enough the mission wasn't over and so we went looking for the last few stragglers and eventually found them...all 35 of them...with 4 purple bosses. Suddenly my chat window looked like this:
Player 1: Pie
Player 2: Pie
Player 3: For the love of <£%*&!"> PIE PIE!!!

And I can now take on EVEN BOSS charecters that are 2 levels above me, and I squashe them. The bad guys don't know what hit them.
BTW, I'm still waiting for ideas about a Super group for GP. I'll be happy to make it but I need help. Colors, symbol, name, all that stuff. I need Ideas people. Help a brother out

I can take out elite bosses if I keep an eye on my health and my hit and run (assasin strike and then placate to run away) tactic works.
As for the supergroup, for some reason yellow and red seems like a good colour combination in my head. Name is easy: Pixelantes or failing that just Game Politicians or Digital Defenders...the symbol on the other hand...thats difficult to say without having the screen infront of me. I'd say a fist or star would work, something political as supposed to impressive.
Its a shame we're not all on the same server, I think I'd enjoy being in a new supergroup.
Anyway, post pictures! The whole point of CoH/CoV is the customisation, I want to see what everyone else created!

After starting a new hero character I believe I have discovered why Paragon city is over run with villainy...its because new superbeings go mad when sent to the Hollows at early levels! Indeed and it also seems to be filled with people who do not understand that when you write "no blind invites" on your search details that you should not send them blind invites. I had one guy yesterday who sent me a team request 12 times without sending a tell, even though I declined each and every one of them. Idiots.
