lol. Except I have a 45-hour a week job, have a solid 4.0 GPA while completing my AA in Comp Sci, am planning my wedding, plus my fiancée has two kids that I've taken over the role of "dad" for. Somehow I squeeze in an hour here, or an hour there to work on a character. Most of them haven't really advanced much in a long while... free time is something I used to have but rarely do any more.

Honestly, after I started going to school, had a job, a girlfriend, and everything... my leveling rate significantly diminished. That said, Every so often, if I can get the time, I'll push a character forward as much as I can afford to.

Just got WoW, I have already installed it once but I had to uninstall after I installed BC because for some reason it could not validate the version. What the hell does that mean anyway? Friend of mine told me since I bought it from EB that disc 3 of BC has a problem with it and it will do that, so to just take it back and get a new one. Is this right?

When did it say it couldn't validate it? My advice for errors installing from disks: dump all the contents of the disks into a temp directory on your harddrive and install it from there.

Also, check the forums. ^_^

You could always download BC from a torrent site, failing that and if you can't get it to install from your disks I can mail you mine (2 extra copies since the collector's ed came with the expansion on DVD as well as CDs).

Ok I finally got it working :D after I put in a call to their help line. It seems if you get an error saying "Unable to validate game version" it is mostly caused by a Trojan virus. They have two anti-virus programs on their tech help site that will find it and remove the virus from your computer. Once I did that the game ran fine :D so here is my info as of right now.

Turns out it was some ****ty DLL masquerading as real drivers, so I replaced them with the official Intel ones. Worked like a charm.

Aside from the looking for group and bazzar spam I have not seen many conversations in General Chat that don't kill my brain cells. But then again this may just be me.

It does depend on the zone. Newbie zones are usually filled with useless, meaningless drivel. Higher-level zones are usually a lot more quiet, with people asking for and receiving actual, useful advice.

However, at least on my server currently, the repulsive newbie-zone grade of chat seems to be rampant in the Outlands.

WoW's screenshots are saved in tga format. I'd suggest doing a google search for tga -> <whatever format you want, like jpg> converter. The GIMP (open source graphics program) is able to do the conversion. I can't tell you which program to use, because my operating system naturally handles tga files.

Edit: oh, I had some fun making an interesting php-enabled sidebar widget for my website, which has some simple statistics about my characters, easy for me to update (I only have to update the levels of the characters). I used "wowmodelviewer" to make the animated gifs that are displayed in that sidebar "widget" on my site. Thanks to some CSS manipulations of the html that is generated on that widget, technically the listing is a bulleted list, rather than something like a HTML table (so it is "table-less"). I've made sure it renders virtually identically in IE and FireFox (but some other scripts on my site have problems with IE, so my site might come up with javascript errors; ignore them and the site will work fine).

Lol maybe Blizzards twisted sense of humor, they seem to like leaving random bodies of NPC laying around all over the place. I don't know how many times I have tried to Rezz one of them for a few minuets only to relaise that it is an NPC.

On another note I finished the adept quest for my Blood Elf Pally last night :D. Ok I have to ask, what is up with all the hate against Blood Elves? I have been catching flack from people because I made a Blood Elf Paladin. I have been accused of being broken and people demanding we be nerfed because of the mana tap and silence ability. If they looked at it, mana tap does not take alot of mana away from the target and the silence lasts for 3 seconds, yeah enough to interupt a spell but it has like a minuet or two cool down time so there is like how many chances to sling another spell? Is that why blood elves are hated, or is it because it is the new race so it is cool to hate it?

I'm not certain either. I have a Blood Elf Paladin (pretty much the first race/background I was comfortable enough to play a Paladin as). While I find the blood elf racials convenient, they certainly aren't overpowered. My Orc Hunter's racials are also very convenient -- especially after Blood Rage was no longer the "I lose" button, and then was further retrofitted to work for ranged attacks. Heck, I tend to pick my race/class combinations with an eye toward the racial bonuses just so that they can come to the forefront. My Undead Warlock gets plenty of use of her Cannibalism ability. That said, it doesn't always work. My Tauren Druid gets almost no use out of his warstomp ability (as it is useless in cat/bear form). My Gnomish Warrior doesn't really use her +15 to engineering (as a blacksmith/miner).

I do think that it just is a case of the new race just getting attacked, mainly because it is new and unknown.

Because people think that now the Horde have a "good looking" race they'll be populated by horny 12 year olds and general morons.

BECAUSE IT WASN'T LIKE THAT BEFORE THE EXPANSION

I'd like to quote myself here, something I said on the wcradio.com forums about the subject:
I'd like to dispel a common myth here: Horde are not more mature than Alliance. Whoever tells you that is a dirty liar. I've played plenty of both, and the only difference is that 12 year old Alliance kiddies want to see naked Night Elves, whereas 12 year old Horde kiddies haven't decided whether they'd rather see naked Night elves, Blood elves, or even Tauren. The same can be said for RP realms; there's nothing different from normal/PVP except that the morons dress it up in better grammar. This is the internet, people ain't smert.

Quests, if I get a tiered quests I tend to run through it until I finish it all. I have leveled maybe once or twice just by killing crap but usually that was when I was going to a location for a quest, looking for herbs, or killing a few things because I was like 700xp til the next level.

Depends on where you are at, and what faction you are. There *should* have been a "bread-crumb" quest -- a quest which sent you to a new area to quest in, so you can continue.

For Horde, there's generally about three areas that come to mind for that level range -- the Barrens really isn't cutting it any more, but there is possibly some quests in Stonetalon Mountains; your best bet, however will probably be checking out Hillsbrad Foothills (East of Silverpine Forest) or Ashenvale (North of the Barrens).

For alliance.... let's see. I'm not quite as familiar with Alliance, but I'd guess there's the Wetlands, maybe Duskwood, and possibly Arathi Highlands.

Well I am horde :D, I was thinking about Hillsbrad because I haven't been there yet but I have heard there is a guild on Blackwing Lair that likes to camp there and gank anything that resembles a horde member.

Also, is camping a graveyard and ganking anything that rezzes there against the rules or something. This happened to me the other night and I was told I should of reported the player doing it because people are not allowed to spawn camp gravesites.

From what I have been told Blackwing lair is one of the more populayed PVP servers, aside from being ganked I actually like going PvP when it is one on one but when it is one on one on mob, or one on one and level 60 or 4 is bs. Ok is it also against the rules to spawn camp a body or is that fair game?

I'm not certain. I play on a "normal" (PvE) server, so I couldn't tell you exactly (spawn-camping a graveyard or corpse is mostly futile on my server). I personally never liked the ganker-friendly atmosphere of PvP servers -- I PvP when I want to, and I quest when I want to. I don't have the time, inclination, or desire to sit there and have to constantly worry about getting ganked while I quest.

Lol an alliance Guild Ganked Tarren Mill for six hours stright last night. After doing two quests and only being killed twice the whole time I was over there I have deiced that all Blood Elves are related to Solid Snake for stealth abilities. But it was annoying when I am in RFK and I keep seeing Tarren Mill is under attack! Poping up every three seconds. By all means after six hours of death the place should be a hole in the ground now.

Had a couple Alliance people who were wiping out Crossroads the other day. They were in their 40's. I got tired of it (since I was playing an alt who needed to turn in quests there), so I logged out from my level 15 character, and logged back in as my level 67 character (who also conveniently was parked right there). For some reason, the second they saw my level 67 Orc Hunter and his level 67 giant bat of DOOM, they decided it was time to flee. I always think it is comical to see people attempt to run from me. Don't they understand how relatively futile that particular tactic is when facing a Hunter?

I got tired of it (since I was playing an alt who needed to turn in quests there), so I logged out from my level 15 character, and logged back in as my level 67 character (who also conveniently was parked right there). For some reason, the second they saw my level 67 Orc Hunter and his level 67 giant bat of DOOM, they decided it was time to flee. I always think it is comical to see people attempt to run from me. Don't they understand how relatively futile that particular tactic is when facing a Hunter?

Lol to quote a hunter friend of mine "Oh yeah running away from me might stop Melee damage, but you forgot about my ****ing gun and attack Lion!"

I sent Flappy my bat to go take out one, and I two-shotted the other one (level 67 means that a level 43 really has no chance). One of them decided that rezzing at the graveyard was the smart move. The other one decided that rezzing at his corpse, with the PvP flag still on was a smart call, and then tried to get on his level 40 mount. The problem with that is that my Orc Hunter has a level 60 Epic mount (Swift Blue Raptor), and the hunter Beastmastery talent that knocks up his riding speed a little more (216% total movement speed is nice) -- he wasn't getting far. He decided to let the PvP flag turn off the next time.

Has anyone does the Valentines event in game? If so what exactly is there to get from it and is it worth the time to do? Do you get some sort of weird armor piece of something?

You can get a Black Dress which is pretty much just lengerie. There's a regular ol fetch quest too, which for horde begins in Orgrimar and ends in hillsbrad, and for Alliance begins in Stormwind iirc...it's all in wowwiki...Anyways if you wear cologne and give a love note to a male npc with a heart above thier head you'll either be heartbroken or you'll get awesome swag like a box of chocolates with great buffs.

There's more to it than that but yeah...pretty much the important stuff.

I loathe the undead. Will of the Forsaken is the crappiest thing ever invented. And I'm not talking about the CC break it engenders - I'm talking about how a reanimated corspe is somehow rendered immune to a Paladin's exorcism and turn undead. Riiiiight. The will of a banshee Queen somehow subverts the Light? Don't think so.

I like the Tauren; respect the orcs. Trolls? Jar-jar Binks single handledly made me hate Star Wars, and this comes from a guy who wore a lightsaber to his high school graduation because the robe, "looked soooo Jedi." Trolls=Jarjar. Blleeeech. Blood elves? ****ing weak-ass traitors. I like that BC kept a few High Elves on the Alliance side, I have loved the elven archers from WC2 onward.

I don't have time this morning to read your article, but I will later. I'd just like to comment on the 'gimped Priest.' I routinely out heal many Priests becuse my char is spec'd mostly for that. EDIT: I had a chance to read your post. I have to admit, it made me want to vomit. Not because I particularly care how you choose to play your Druid, but because it was really just a blow-by-blow account of the WoW forums, which are the worst on the net - bar none. I visit them once or twice a week to read blue posts, that's it. More than that, and I feel my brain die a little.

To the content:

"If I don’t carry a “healer set” of gear in my bags, does that make me a bad Druid player?"

Nope. It makes you a limited hybrid, for sure, but not bad in any way. I take pride in filling every role well with a gear swap. That means I trade bag space for it. You take pride in being an effective, experienced melee DPS/Tank. Hakuna Matatta (-1 spelling), man.

I carry two full sets. A 'caster kit' and a 'feral kit.' My caster set has int/mana regen and I have a couple trinks that switch between +heals and + spDmg. I can main heal or ranged spell DPS. My feral set is str/sta/agi/AP, with a couple piece switches between more sta or more agi. Feral AP weapons are super in the BC, too. I can Kat DPS or Bear tank effectively (admittedly, not 100% as well as you Mangling bastards :p ).

Now, I have a full 18-slotter dedicated to my versatiliy. That's a trade that most druids won't make - and thus we have the bull**** threads about 'proper roles' on the WoW crap-for-boards.

This issue has 3 sources:

1) WoW is very gear dependant.
2) Blizzard wants inventory space to be sparce.
3) Healing/Support roles are a scarce commodity.

Those three facts lead to the pigeon-holing of our class. Personally, I think the addtion of 50-slot (OK exaggerated) equipment-only bags would solve this issue, but Blizzard won't do it. They want people to choose a role/playstyle/spec and stick with it. With easy gear swaps you further reduce 'pure' classes into the muddy hybrid waters. Which people hate, because they don't like to have to actually plan or converse in PUGs.

Ok I was talking to a few people in a party last night about PVP and I was called weird because I have guidelines I follow in PvP. This is what I told them that got their reaction.

-Not going to just up and kill something that is a lower level than me(ie not in my level range, 11 or more levels lower) But if they draw on me first then the gloves are off.

-I will only draw my weapon on someone who is in my level range and only if they decide that today would be a fine day to attack me, or if I need some aggression I need to get rid of :D.

-Ganking a level 10 character is neither cool nor epic and it just makes you a dick for doing so.

-If i see more than three people on one alliance player I will not join in on the raping, where is the challange or the chance of death there?

@demon

I don't think that's weird. Those rules are 'honorable.' Coming from a PVE server, I don't PVP much outside of BGs, so when I see a yellow/red tag, the frenzy is a little hard to overcome - especially if it's an undead. I kill them on sight, as well as Blood Elves. But otherwsie, I take no pleasure in killing low levels, unless it's a revenge thing - like protecting my younger guildies and the like.

I've seen such tactics, but alas, I don't really PvP. Got burned out on it about 3 games ago. Not the PvP itself, so much as the general attitude of people who tend to PvP... on either side of the fight. I've honestly grown tired of the "dishonorable" way people just like to annoy others with PvP.

I detailed my hatred of the Horde in previous posts. It's all very nerdy and opinionated, and by that I mean Scientific.

I typically try to steer clear of them. I only keep my eye on the threads, because one of the jobs I am currently pursuing is a CM at Blizzard (I know, I know). But you are right.... the official WoW forums really suck.

Aye.... I just don't have the inventory slots to throw an extra set of gear in them. My highest level tailor is level 45....

I carry two full sets. A 'caster kit' and a 'feral kit.' My caster set has int/mana regen and I have a couple trinks that switch between +heals and + spDmg. I can main heal or ranged spell DPS. Of course, the thing about how I play my druid... I'm usually soloing/questing/grinding with him. I have him built to accomplish that. I almost never am in an instance, a battleground, or a raid -- partially because I lack the time to dedicate to any of those things, partially because I'm biased against PvP & Raiding as well.

This issue has 3 sources:

1) WoW is very gear dependant.
2) Blizzard wants inventory space to be sparce.

Hehe good point. Then again, about the increased slots... if you add 4 inventory slots to each character, and let's say that most people have on average 2 characters, that comes to 4 * 2 * (number of people on your server) * (memory space for 1 inventory slot) more resources required. This is something that can rapidly impact the available resources for each server. So... I can kind of see why Blizzard doesn't exactly go hog-wild with inventory slots. But, you are right.... it would be easily solved with more storage space.

My Druid just recently upgraded to 14-slot bags (with 1 20-slot herbalist bag). This was an improvement over his previous 10-slot bags.

Ah, guild drama stories? Do share.

I was officer in the guild Renegade on Ghostlands EU. One of the high level members left because he didn't like the fact that we had about 60 members and were still inviting (I'll admit, the rules were pretty hazy and the GM didn't keep control, but leaving is obviously the better choice than to bring up the issue with officers. I'll also skim over the fact that he invited peoples alts to the guild because veterans could accidently invite; but I digress). Soon after, the whole guild fell apart. The guy who left and some other higher ups formed a new guild (Although not out of spite) called "The breed". For some good old harmless revenge, we salvaged what members we could and formed "The bread".
Please, everyone share their drama stories.

Also, I've started a Nelf Hunter on Nagrand, and it'd be nice to have someone to talk to. :(

Has anyone here ever left a guild due to the drama caused by someone?

Yeah, but only by myself. In FFXI I started a guild with a friend, I played Mithra and decided to RP the person behind the keys as well as the Character. X-play to be exact. Eventually, someone let slip and I confirmed I was a trap by calling the other Guild master. There was a huge hullabaloo and it split the guild asunder. To this day I have people in LJ and AIM who call me "Murbella" and can't help but think of me as F instead of M.

Well the guild I was in seemed to be a cool guild, but then all went to hell when one of the GMs friends decided to take it upon themselves to run the guild/tell people how and when to play their character/chastise anyone who was of a lower level if they asked for help on something claiming they were just milking the guild/ordering people not to play alts. It got so bad that one of our better memebers and propbably one of the coolest left the guild because he got to 70 and was leveling an alt to help the lower members level. Well they did not like this and started in on them, well he left and with him went my friend and then another friend. Now I didn't know they left til the next day when they were badmouthing them, well I left right then and there. And now I am in a guild with my two friends and our pal who has done more for us in the game than the rest of the guild, and I don't mean PL i mean offer advice or tips if we were stuck.

By the way he wants us to change the guild name since he said he made a bad choice in a name to start with, can you do that or does it need to be deleted and a new one made?

So, I'd recently joined a guild of a friend of mine over in Hyjal. The guys there are awesome, all around, but I guess drama can come from unexpected places.

*Accessing Memory Banks...*

At one point, the higher-ups were commenting about some guy wanting to join. This guy apparently had a history, so his request was denied. This led one of the guildies to comment, "Well, I guess we're officially elitist, now." The conversation then jokingly went on about t-shirts and berets, until I went and said "Does this mean I have to start playing on a Mac?"

This in turn led to some fairly light-hearted Mac jokes all around. All of a sudden, out of the blue, one of the guildies up and quit, with no apparent explanation. As we determined a short time later, the guildie was a Mac user, and was apparently very upset about all the jokes. This caused a bit of a shouting match between friends of the guildie and those who considered it to be a silly reason to /gquit. Luckily, the drama only lasted for a day or so, and everyone's back and (seemingly) happy, but I guess I can take pride(?) in claiming that I was single-handedly responsible for starting the drama. Go me.

Has anyone here ever left a guild due to the drama caused by someone?

Yup, mainly the guild I was in started building up tremendous amount of drama -- those who were Raiding more or less ignoring or otherwise treating non-raiders (including the new low-level members of the guild) like trash. Their only reasoning being that if people weren't raiding, they weren't "helping the guild" -- while those who didn't raid, were just trying to get *someone* to help them, talk to them, anything. It went so far that the guild leadership even was divided -- the guild had three elected leaders, and two of them along with a number of other guild members were caught plotting to throw out everyone who didn't agree with them (basically, anyone who either couldn't or didn't want to raid and anyone else who stuck up for them, including the third guild leader).

It was just too much to handle, what with people I had taken as friends since before the game launched more or less stabbing me in the back, simply because what little time I have to play WoW (I'm talking a few hours a week), I had the audacity to want to spend it working on developing my characters, not spending the couple hours waiting for a raid to start (and then having to log off before it started).

It took me... oh, a number of months before I found a new guild. Or rather, Boffo found the new guild, and I tagged along. Much smaller, much nicer environment, without the conspiracies and schemes that the previous guild had. However, I can only hole that this guild doesn't end up down the same bitter path every other MMO guild I've been in eventually goes.

Well the guild that I jumped too decided to change the name and since nobody wanted to be the GM of it I decided to be it and put the gold out for the tabard. So since I put the monies down I got to choose the name and thus The Church of the Fonz was born :D, anyone on Blackwing Lair on Horde hit me up if you want an invite.

Hah, that's awesome. Wasn't there another worm-like raid boss they called "Hai-Shulud" (wrong on purpose, of course)?

They're going to announce Frozen Throne there. No one in their right mind should go. At least 2 of your sensory organs would perish.

Frozen Throne? What?

Someone found a map of Northrend in the latest WoW update. In a folder called 'Frozen Throne'.

What this means is that the next expansion will add Northrend.

No way you're actually going to fight Arthas though.

We'll see about Arthas. If they bump the levels up 20 more, there's a good chance. But yeah, all signs are pointing to Frozen Throne as the next expansion now -- whatever they call it.

That said, I'd not be surprised if they add a new class, but don't add new races.... following what I've seen as a "traditional" MMO layout. Or, rather than a new class, they unveil the Hero Classes (or whatever they want to call them), which branches out the various classes potentially into a number of alternatives at higher levels. Think what would happen if they branched based on the typical popular builds for characters....like, if Priests could subdivide into a class that exemplifies the Shadow side of the class, while another that exemplifies the Holy side of the class, and so forth.

However.... I'd be curious what will happen with the flying mounts. Will Blizzard spend the time to make old-world Azeroth "flying mount safe" and open it to people with flying mounts finally, or will they restrict flying mounts oly to expansion areas?

Eldre'Thalas, 70 hunter 61 priest 60 warrior 50 shaman misc. alts

I'd post names but I'd rather not disclose them, and I left more out due to I'm lazy and about to be eating dinner.

I personally would love to go. Considering I live only 2 - 3 hours north of Anaheim, it would be great. However, there are a couple things that could make it so I can't go. First is my wedding, planned for July 7th. As such, money I have is heading toward the wedding fund right now. Second is that my fiancee and I are expecting a baby early August. These two things, along with getting a home for all of us (my fiancee & myself, her two girls, and the new baby) are all on my "to do list" for just before BlizzCon. I just don't see myself really being able to juggle all that PLUS the convention this year. Which is a real shame, I had a lot of fun at the last one, and I *know* my stepdaughters-to-be would love to get to go to Disneyland.

Well, they have to, or no one would be able to interact with players who have it.

You won't be able to go to Northrend without the expansion though.

And yeah, I think class splits should happen. The end of the talent trees should be "ascend to *class*" or something.

Well, I'd be surprised. we're talking about a whole new continent, after all. Multiple zones, and of course, it is the "homeland" of the Scourge -- so I'd expect more than a few instances, leading to a Frozen Throne instance where raid groups face off with Arthas himself.

Considering what Chris Metzen said aboout players taking on Arthas "only" at level 70 (as in, "yeah, right -- the raid would get creamed") back in BlizzCon '05, we're talking another level cap increase. If not to 90 (or 100?), then to 80 at least.

Considering that "hero classes" or "alternative advancement" for high-level characters is becoming an increasingly "hot-button" issue that Blizzard has been working out the details on for a while now.... I'd honestly expect it to be part of the Northrend expansion. There might also be the addition of one totally new class (making the number of classes match the number of races, and the number of slots on a single server -- symmetry.... even if it is compulsary). Of course, this doesn't have to be there, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

So, we're looking at a number of things that will be part of the Northrend expansion. This is far more likely to be a paid-for, box-released expansion like the Burning Crusade, rather than some free content.

The stigma of being the imbalanced race in WCIII.

I simply don't play WoW enough to know if that carried over into it. But it probably did >.>

No Emerald Dream yet. I dunno if I'd expect that in a Northrend expansion. That, to me, would seem more like an expansion dealing with opening other planes.... Just like the Maelstrom I don't see in a Northrend expansion.

So, I ran into an interesting movie reference. For the level 30 Warrior quest, you are sent to Fray island just off the Barrens to meet Klannoc MacCleod (who wears a dress and carries a katana).
